Winter White Ornaments

These would look lovely on my tree. Alas, I was on the road and didn't feel like stuffing my suitcase full of fragile glass baubles, so I settled for bringing home a photo instead.

Autumn Twilight

I seem to be drawn to twilight photos this time of year; must be the season.

This one was taken in Rothenburg ob dem Tauber in late October.

When I first saw these salmon colored leaves, I thought they were fake. I did not imagine such colors could possibly be natural - but of course, they are.

Last Leaf

As the year winds to a close, a last stubborn leaf clings defiantly to its branch.

Winter Twilight

Taken in Aiken, South Carolina, the week before Thanksgiving.

Here is Cologne, as seen from across the river. The building with the two spires, seen on the left, is the Cathedral.


Here is a shot of the interior. Though the building can be dark, when the noonday sun hits it just right, it's flooded in light.


If I had to pick a single favorite, it might be this one - statues bathed in the light pouring from the stained glass window in the south transept.

Water Lilies

I took this on a recent trip to Huntington Library in Pasadena. These particular water lilies were growing inside the conservatory; you can see the windows of the domed roof reflected in the water.

November in rural England

This was taken in Brampton, England, in November of 2005. It was only about 4 or 5 in the afternoon, but I was far enough north that the sun was already going down. I like the way the colors of twilight are reflected in the water - I think it has a very tranquil effect.

Sibelius Monument

From Wikipedia: "Jean Sibelius (December 8, 1865 – September 20, 1957) was a Finnish composer of classical music, and one of the most popular composers of the late 19th and early 20th century. His music and genius have also played an important role in forming the Finnish national identity."

There is a monument dedicated to him in Helskinki, Finland. These are my close-up shots of the monument. For other people's pictures of the monument from other angles, click here.

I love it when I turn a corner and discover a scene like this one.

Going on a outing

I never knew that swan babies like to ride piggy-back! But if you look closely at Mama in this picture, you'll see a tiny grey fluff-ball between her wings.

The photo is a little grainy, because my point-and-shoot digital camera has only 3x optical zoom, so I cropped and zoomed in PhotoShop to make the birds a little larger.

Stockholm, June 2006

This is a photo taken near the steps of the Stockholm Town Hall. It was taken on June 22, the day after the Summer Solstice. Despite the cloudy sky, it was quite warm that day, and the city was nearly empty - everyone was on holiday.

April Twilight

The composition is not the best, but I like the effect of the sunlight on the leaves.

Sunlight on the vines

Rudesheim is a little city in the mid-Rhine district in Germany, noted for its vineyards. I love the way the sunshine glows through the leaves in the late afternoon.
